College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

The School of Social and Political Sciences is seeking a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work with a research group led by Dr Franziska Meinck. This role will focus on intergenerational violence transmission in South Africa and potential mechanisms for prevention. The role will be based in Edinburgh and will work closely with South Africa and within an international team.

The post holder will work independently on a European Research Council (ERC) funded project to study intergenerational violence transmission amongst vulnerable families. You will be a key research team member, with extensive amounts of independent work and responsibility within the project. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in managing a large, complex study, and being part of an international research team with wide policy and programming impact.

This post, which will involve extensive research management across multiple sites and partners, data management and advanced data analysis and publications. A quantitative doctorate is required. This post will be expected to initiate, conduct analyses for and produce first-authored peer-reviewed publications as well as supporting analyses and publications with Dr Franziska Meinck.

Our research group is committed to capacity-building and supporting team members to further their careers, and you will be supported to further your research portfolio, career portfolio and peer-reviewed publication outputs. The research team is also committed to improving outcomes for high-risk children and youth in Southern Africa, and this is our primary guiding aim.

This full time (35 hours per week) position is available from 1 November 2020 for 36 months (with the possibility of extension for a further 2 years dependent on funding).
