The University of Helsinki is an international scientific community of 40,000 students and researchers. It is one of the leading multidisciplinary research universities and ranks among the top 100 international universities in the world.

The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research unit focusing on human genomics and personalised medicine at the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) of the University of Helsinki - a leading Nordic university with a strong commitment to life science research. As part of Academic Medical Center Helsinki in Meilahti campus FIMM collaborates locally with the Faculty of Medicine, Helsinki University Hospital and National Institute for Health and Welfare. FIMM is currently seeking
Epidemiologist

FIMM is the leading genetics and precision medicine research unit in Finland. We are managing petabytes of human genetics and health data, and these datasets will likely increase tenfold in the forthcoming years. We are daily collaborating with top researchers and research institutes in the world and international health-care companies to improve health and well-being on a global scale. FIMM is seeking an experienced epidemiologist to have a key role in the expansion of one of the largest research projects in Finland.

The FinnGen research project (https://www.finngen.fi/en) led by the University of Helsinki, aims to better understand the mechanisms of disease by combining genomic and health information. FinnGen is one of the very first personalised medicine projects at this scale, and the public-private collaborative nature of the project is exceptional compared to many ongoing studies. The project brings together Finnish universities, hospitals and hospital districts, THL, Blood Service, biobanks and international pharmaceutical companies. The FinnGen study utilizes samples collected by Finnish biobanks and the goal is to better understand how our genome affects our health by involving 500,000 Finns. The FinnGen project is prepared to launch a new effort that aims to recontact up to 200,000 participants to collect detailed information about health status and lifestyle.

Qualification and requirements: We are looking for an experienced epidemiologist that will take a leading role in the Finngen recontacting study. Tasks include setting up and analyzing questionnaires data, evaluating participation rate, and employ strategies to improve it. The candidate will work closely with the Finnish Biobanks and the FinnGen partners to implement changes in the study protocol. He/She will also be responsible for identifying and implementing tools for reporting aggregate questionnaire results. Because of the highly collaborative nature of this job, effective verbal and written communication skills are required. The candidate should have ideally 5 years of experience in working with survey or epidemiological data and good knowledge of statistical programming languages such as R or Stata. A doctoral degree and a publication track record are considered a plus. The candidate will closely work with The Data Science and Genetic Epidemiology Lab (https://www.dsgelab.org/) led by Dr. Andrea Ganna.

Apply by September 30, 2020: https://www.helsinki.fi/en/open-positions/epidemiologist-fimm
